Since this will be the final week for challenges in season eight, it’s most likely pointing toward an eruption in season nine. This was activated by the fourth rune that’s unlocking the hatch at Loot Lake. There’s only one more rune left to find and activate before the hatch will presumably open. It’s possible that a spaceship is hiding underneath Loot Lake and will emerge at the start of season nine. Epic Games have often done game-changing events at the start and end of a season to usher in new changes and themes. A Reddit user posted a clip of the fourth rune activating the fourth lock on the hatch. But the volcano eruption, probably won’t be the only event to happen on the island. It appears to be more active than it’s ever been, leading players to believe that it’s heralding an eruption soon. Once that event occurred, players noticed that the Fortnite volcano started to smoke. Players mined the data for Fortnite to discover an in-game model of a lake spaceship hull. It’ll be intriguing to find out how the ship and volcano erupting are connected.

The volcano functioned similarly to the Floating Island; players would be blown upwards when entering it, but could resist against the current by flying against it. During the events of Season 8, a rune would shine a beam towards the volcano before entering its respective spot inside of Loot Lake. The meteors destroyed half of Retail Row, struck Polar Peak's iceberg with a crack, and destroyed all of Tilted Towers, thus making its final appearance. The volcano, which first appeared at the start of season 8, also erupted and caused calamity around the map, especially in some of its biggest and most popular locations. It seems likely that once the meter is full, the volcano will erupt in full, likely changing the Fortnite island in some way. Back in February, season 8 of Fortnite introduced a volcano to the game’s ever-changing island, and now it’s finally starting to erupt. Events were first set in motion a few weeks ago when a mysterious alien rune appeared on the island. It’s a collaborative effort, and you can help out right now (though, of course, many players are killing those trying to participate, so be careful out there). Players were able to collectively push it across the map toward a spaceship-style structure that was excavated at Loot Lake. When this might happen remains unclear.
